Yesterday evening, Mayor Xu Zongheng met with Patrick McGovern, Chairman of International Data Group (IDG), who was invited to attend the 7th China Hi-tech Fair, and his entourage at the Wuzhou Guest House.

Patrick McGovern, an old friend of Shenzhen people, has paid visits to Shenzhen for 35 times in the past 25 years. He was honored “Honorary Citizen of Shenzhen” in 1998. In 1993, IDG set up the first venture capital firm in China’s mainland and 20 percent of the investments are in Shenzhen’s hi-tech enterprises so far. Starting from the first Hi-tech Fair, IDG has been engaged in publicizing and promoting the Fair to the outside world and made a great contribution to attracting more multinational corporations to Shenzhen.

On behalf of the 7th Hi-tech Fair Organizing Committee and the Shenzhen Government, Xu Zongheng extended his warmest welcome to Mr. McGovern’s coming. He said IDG’s business in China helped promote the development of venture capital in China especially in Shenzhen. Besides, IDG also helped publicize the Hi-tech Fair to the outside world. Shenzhen Government would create a better environment and provide better services for the development of all foreign enterprises including IDG. He hoped IDG could enhance its cooperation with Shenzhen in the fields of venture capital and the Hi-tech Fair in order to seek for further development.

Mr. McGovern said Shenzhen’s development is significant and amazing. Every time he came to Shenzhen, he would find new achievements. He was confident in the cooperation with Shenzhen.
